In the current era, everyone is making the switch into the SUV segment where we see many manufacturers are pushing to release at least one SUV in 2019 up to the point where a supercar manufacturer Lamborghini releases the Uruz which they claimed to sell better than the rest of their lineup. But here we are with the 2019 Hyundai Elantra and I think it has what it takes to really stand out from the crowd.
The 2019 Hyundai Elantra is staying true to its roots where it is a no-nonsense, value-packed sedan. The Elantra is a bargain at RM 109,888 with the list of standard equipment it has. There is only one variant being sold in Malaysia which is the 2.0L executive variant. The 6th generation Hyundai Elantra offers the comfort of what a compact sedan should with the standard leather seats, the sporty steering wheels and the premium gear lever which makes the cabin feels upscale.
From the outside, it is obvious that Hyundai did a whole refresh look for this generation Elantra with the sharp headlights which combine with the grille and the whole front bumper can be seen with lots of lines which make it look like a hungry shark ready to attack. The rear gets a new redesigned rear lamps and the good looking ducktail lip which brings out the sportiness look.
This 2.0L Executive variant is powered by the 2.0 MPi gasoline engine which produces 152ps and 192Nm of torque paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission which sends all the power to the front wheels. It doesn’t sound like a lot but it is seriously sufficient as your city go around car and taking this for a long journey wouldn’t be an issue as it has proven to be a very fuel-saving engine. The car also comes with four driving modes which are Eco, Normal, Sport and Smart. During the course of our testing, we kept it in Smart mode as it will self calibrate the ECU to our driving behavior without having us constantly fiddling with the driving mode button.
Moving on inside, the car is extremely comfortable with the super soft and supportive seats. The gauge cluster is spot on as it shows just the right amount of data a driver would need and the touch of having a chequered flag at the back of the needle is really nice. The leather wrap multi-function steering wheel is perfect to hold and when you are doing some back to back cornering it never felt dull.
A new 7” touchscreen LCD infotainment system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto really bring connectivity to the next level with its simple yet functional system. The car also includes wireless charging which helps to reduce the amount of wire tangling around the car and the included TPMS system is really a plus point, driver would no longer need to go to the petrol station just to check on the tire pressure but now they can do it on the move with just a touch of a button.
The safety feature of the Elantra is top-notch with 6 airbags, ABS, Hill Start Assist, Downhill Brake Control, Vehicle Stability Control, Brake Assist System and also Electronic Stability Control. Hyundai is definitely concern about its driver and passenger safety. Besides safety, they also provide a number of gadgets in the Elantra to spice things up. They included a smart key with start-stop as standard, auto light control, smart trunk, rear parking assist system and also a superb rearview camera.
The new Hyundai Elantra really put itself in a place where it is value for money and if anyone is looking for a mid-size family sedan this Hyundai Elantra definitely needs to be in their choice.
