After being previewed back in April, TC Euro Cars officially launched the all-new Renault Megane R.S. 280 Cup in Malaysia, available in both manual and EDC Auto transmission.
The all-new Renault Megane R.S. 280 Cup manual is priced at RM279,888 (OTR without insurance) and if you opt for the EDC version, it is RM 299,888 (OTR without insurance). Both cars come with three-years or 100,000km warranty (whichever comes first).
Owners will be able to choose from four different colour options which include Diamond Black and Pearl White (additional RM 1,000). If you prefer something more special there is also Liquid Yellow which is the RS signature colour or the Orange Tonic but do take note that you’ll need to pay a premium of RM 8,000 to enjoy these two colours.
The French hot hatch will only be available in a 5-door variant, unlike its predecessor which comes in a 3-door variant. The is now powered by a new four-cylinder 1.8-litre turbocharged engine which received the magic touch by the wizards at Renault Sport Cars and Renault Sport Racing. The engine produces 280ps (276hp) and 390Nm of torque. 0-100km/h sprint is done in 5.8 seconds and the car will top out at 255 km/h for the manual and 250 km/h for the EDC.
The All-new Renault MEGANE R.S. is available only with the more track-focused CUP chassis, which incorporates a new Torsen mechanical and limited-slip differential. To push the limit further, there is now a 4CONTROL four-wheel steering system which is a world first-in-segment technology and it will improve cornering efficiency. Besides that, there is also an addition of four hydraulic compression stops which is rally-inspired technology which allows optimum control of tyre-ground contact.
The Megane R.S. also received specific body sides which means that the wings have been widened by 60mm at the front and 45mm at the back. The ride height has been lowered by 5mm and with the new 19-inch wheels the car looks aggressive. The braking power of the car has been improved with bigger front discs which measure 355mm (+15mm compared to predecessor) and bi-material aluminium/cast iron disc helps to reduce the weight by 1.8kg per wheel.
Moving on to the interior both manual and EDC variant is identical except for the centre console. In the EDC variant, there is no longer a mechanical handbrake lever as they swap them for an electronic switch handbrake. The manual gets two separate cup holders but the EDC gets a shuttered cupholder. The gear lever is different as you would already have known and the EDC does gain steering wheel-mounted gearshift paddles.
The Renault’s Multi-Sense system will provide multiple driving modes which consist of Comfort, Normal, Sport and Race. These will affect gear changes speed, engine noise and jerkiness during gear shifts. In Sport or Race mode, the EDC comes with Multi-Change Down feature where it allows drivers to drop several gears simultaneously by pressing and holding the left-hand paddle and launch control where the clutch and turbo are pre-loaded so you’ll get a superb launch off from a standing start.
The R.S. Monitor has been completely revised with a more user-friendly layout and more powerful features. Every onboard telemetry and data acquisition is displayed in real-time on the 8.7-inch R-LINK 2 touchscreen tablet.
Test drives are available at selected Renault showrooms by appointments only and can be requested via the Renault Malaysia website.
