The new Isuzu D-Max has a new body decal design and it now carries a new 12-spoke design 18-inch alloy rims. At the rear, there is a soft-touch tailgate that is available as an option and this mechanism uses a novel strut to control the opening speed of the tailgate making it possible to lift it with just one finger. Moving inside, the higher-end models get soft-touch materials on major panel matched with the dark interior trim and the new-design leather fabric combination seats. There is a new high-speed USB charging port at the front and a secondary port behind the center compartment for the rear passenger.
The new Isuzu D-Max is powered by the new RZ4E-TC 1.9-liter common-rail four-cylinder diesel engine which replaces the old 4JK1-TCX 2.5-liter unit. The new 1.9-liter engine is developed over four years by Isuzu Motors in Japan and outputs are rated at an astonishing 150ps at 3,600 rpm and 350Nm of torque between 1,800 and 2,600 rpm which makes this engine more powerful than the outgoing 2.5-liter engine.
Isuzu also pointed out that while the engine output has increased, the fuel consumption and dependability have improved. Isuzu tested the new Blue Power 1.9-litre Isuzu in Thailand and fuel economy shows a 19% improvement and 37% reduction in internal friction which will increase the engine life expectancy.
While engine output has increased, there has been no sacrifice to Isuzu’s legendary fuel economy or dependability. Tests conducted in Thailand even show a 19% improvement in fuel economy while a reduction in internal friction by 37% suggests that there will be less wear on engine components as well, thereby increasing the life expectancy of the engine. Isuzu has spent a total of 3,500 hours of bench-testing the oil burner to cope with our low-quality Euro 2M diesel as well as the B20 biodiesel. An additional pre-fuel filter is included as part of the maintenance schedule to allow the use of Euro 2M fuel.
To complement the new engine, there is a new six-speed manual and automatic transmission which is coupled to it. The new six-speed transmission will improve acceleration and overtaking with the tweaked final drive ratio and it will offer drivers a more relaxing cruise. In the safety department, the new D-Max gets Hill Descent Control (HDC) which joins the standard safety kit list of dual airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, stability control, hill start assist and ISOFIX rear child seat anchors. New to the D-Max also is the Vehicle Launch Assist Control which increases initial torque which reduces turbo lag when accelerating from idle.
