Quite nothing create a buzz like the Honda Civic. It has been so ingrained into the hearts and minds of the Malaysian psyche that people from all walks of life have found themselves all naturally intrigued to know what’s what with the Civic. And when it’s a brand new Civic the intrigue and the curiosity are bound to be massive.
Honda unveiled the 2016 Civic sedan in September 2015. Production began in late October, with sales beginning on 12 November. The Civic coupe debuted at the LA Auto Show in November, with sales beginning in March.
Civic variants include sedan, coupe, 5-door hatchback, Si trims, and Type-R models. The all new Civic was launched earlier this day with a huge high key spectacle that befits the Civic global appeal. The 10th generation Civic is dubbed as a ‘D segment value’ for ‘C segment pricing’ by Honda Malaysia. The new Civic brings with it all the expected improvements in proportion, dynamics, refinements, styling and performance.
Styling have been done along the lines of current automotive design trend, with eye pleasing new face, handsomely distinctive and perfectly matches the bold new image of the brand new Honda. Indeed with a fierce new shape and distinctive cut lines, the10th-generation Civic has never looked better. Also, the exterior features standard LED DRLs and C-shaped LED taillights. Headlamps with LED low and high beams along with amber LED turn signals are optional. Other key details of the exterior includes body-colored decklid spoiler, one-touch power moonroof with tilt feature, security System with Remote Entry and Trunk Release, body-colored power side mirrors including expanded view driver’s mirror, variable intermittent windshield wipers, 2-speed / intermittent windshield wipers.
Inside the trademark Civic interior features a more futuristic design concept that have exemplified Honda’s trademark that was present in their costlier models. Redesigned fascia, center console – all of which are eye pleasing with aesthetical refinements through and through, are all standard affair in the new Civic, with premium looking creature comfort amenities all abound. Of course, the audio and connectivity part – long a time proven Honda thing is also well ingrained with relatively big screen on the center console, features clear and easily operable features.
Now on the performance aspect, the new Civic has a brand new turbocharged 1.5 engine featuring a single scroll turbocharger and internal wastegate. Output is 174 hp at 6000rpm while torque is 162 lb.ft. at 1700-5500rpm. This new forced inducted powerplant is mated to Honda’s CVT. The exciting new turbo engine is available on two models (Civic 1.5 Turbo Premium and 1.5 Turbo) while the entry model make do with the older 1.8.
Pricing for the three new Civic variants are as follows (OTR with insurance): RM113,800 1.8S, RM127,800 1.5 Turbocharged and RM135,800 1.5 Turbocharged Premium. All comes with 3 years warranty.
