Season 2 of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Vios Challenge is well underway and is heading into its final stages with just 2 races left. Round 2 of 4 wrapped up late October 2018 spectacularly at MAEPS, Serdang.
Taking after the wildly successful Season 1 Toyota Vios Challenge that ended in the middle of 2018, Season 2 is set on the same path and is garnering up quite a crowd already. Perhaps the fact that the competition cars can be found in 1 of every 5 households in Malaysia, it’s pretty exhilarating to see them being raced in a door to door format.
The 2KM long road circuit comprised of 17 hair raising turns that puts the drivers skills to the test. Plenty of door to door action and close calls. Thanks to the live footage and commentary by the TGR Racing Festival, fans were able to follow the race and support their drivers via the internet.
Race 1 of Promotional Class where the drivers are famous celebrities from Malaysia was won by Nabil Ahmad while Race 2 was taken by Aiman Tino, knocking the previous winner to second place. Sporting Class features racing teams and the win for Race and Race 2 was taken by TeamNanoplus and Tedco Racing respectively. The pièce de résistance, Super Sporting class, and of course the most intense, was taken home by ST Wangan Racing Team and Kegani Racing Team respectively for Race 1 and 2.
Toyota Gazoo Racing Festival Season 2 flows into 2019 for Round 3 taking place at our food haven state, Penang this weekend, 22nd to 24th February 2019. The 3 race categories, Promotional, Sporting and Super Sporting, will be the same for Season 2 with many celebrities such as Janna Nick, Diana Danielle, Shawn Lee and Syukri Yahaya taking to the driver seats once more for the Promotional Class. Additionally, 6 new celebrities will be contesting in the specially prepared Vios race cars. Aiman Tino, Khai Bahar, Nabila Razali, Wany Hasrita, Akim Ahmad, and Nabil Ahmad have taken up the challenge and will be given necessary training at the Vios Academy prior to the race.
As before the rules and regulations remain unchanged, which in our opinion keeps the racing more fun. The drive train of the Vios cars are not to be tampered with and are identical to one another leaving it completely up to the drivers skill set to determine the results.
The Vios Challenge is without a doubt the main attraction of the TGR Racing Festival although the festival itself is filled with a plethora of activities that run through the entire weekend. Among the many brands that sponsor the TGR Racing Festival are Toyo Tyres, Denso, TRD Asia, Enkei, Moty’s, Drive M7 Energy Drinks and Toyota Capital Services. More details on the festival can be found at the official website.
