Ingolstadt REVOlution – Audi A5 2.0T Sportback


One apparent precepts behind the customization of vehicles regardless of types, classes or budget is that, apart from being a healthy way to spend your hard earned wages, instead of getting loaded and stoned and senseless spending, is its function as a ‘placard’ of your personality, the embodiment thereof. Over here like pretty much everywhere else with an active mod scene, you do find a multitude of personification and personalization of rides, from the bog standard, discreet and understated right up to the other end of the spectrum.

Case in point this striking A5 Sportback. Undoubtedly the vibrant Technicolor nature of this Ingolstadt origin medium sized saloon slash hatchback reflects upon the inherent personality of its owner, to a point. It doubles as an extension of his outgoing character again to a point. The reason for my ‘to a point’ repetition is because of that wise age old adage that preceded our founding forefathers – don’t judge a book by its cover. Just so you know that metaphor originated back in 1944 more than a decade before our country was inaugurated, attributed to a 1944 edition of the African journal American Speech. You see, unlike other car magazine we provide you with quite a bit more than just car-related insights and information.

Moving on it’d pertinent to describe first the standard A5 before we dwell directly into the heart of this unique Audi example. Under the hood is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 252 horsepower. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and Quattro all-wheel drive are standard. Handling is precise thanks to a newly developed suspension, while weight reduction as much as 85 kilograms only adds a new level of performance and dynamics on the opulent Audi. For the tech savvy, there’s automated emergency braking and a 7.0-inch infotainment system with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – innovative infotainment solutions.

Consider all of the above for a moment. With a whisker above 250 ponies galloping along the performance figures for the stock car isn’t to be scoffed at. Century sprint of right under 7 seconds with a 250km/h top end all of which gets accomplished inside a cocooning cabin inundated with premium inserts and surroundings. Of course the nature of our work scope implies the following: as impressive or as fast and furious as a production standard automobile can be, they’re merely platforms upon which everything from an imitation carbon fiber muffler tip right up to a full blown quadruple turbo Bugatti Veyron could be added (with the right kind of dosh and a suitably talented wrench wielding tuner of course) thereby affording the label ‘hyper’ as it were.

So what sort of hyper-ness is at play in this case? Well for starters you absolutely can’t get past the Wraphauz body graphics package for this A5. I am sure by now the Wraphauz name has been on the lips of local enthusiasts with their multitude of car body treatments, finishing, plus a myriad of other packages all done with exemplary expert craftsmanship. The A5 Sportback’s Wraphauz graphics wraps (pun coincidental) around a full Caractere bodykit – the now famous Belgian brand.

Completing the external aesthetics the owner opted for 18 inch RAYS alloy wheels shod with Yokohama AD08R, the RAYS & Yokohama combination encaged (albeit in a round spinning manner) a pair of much enhanced stopping power in the form of Endless MX72 pads equipped AP9040 caliper & disc combo for the front while the rear remains stock. Suspension upgrades comes in the form of Bilstein PSS10 as well as H&R anti-roll bars.

On the subject of engine mods the path chosen was a pretty straightforward larger turbo in the form of a Loba LO400 Turbocharger – the original OEM+ Sport Turbocharger Upgrade for 2.0 TFSI engines. LOBA state-of-the-art billet compressor wheel, 5-axis CNC re-profiled compressor housing and backplate, 5-axis CNC machined exhaust manifold, port matched exhaust runners, special clipped turbine wheel, optimized clearances, modified actuator, uprated bearing system and precision balanced LO400 blower runs under optimized REVO Stage 3 engine mapping together with all the usual performance enhancing suspects (Custom Air Filter, Custom Downpipe, CENDE Full Exhaust System, CTS Intercooler). Along with a REVO gearbox flash for the DCT you could more or less expect max output to be ‘upwards of 400hp’ (although the owner’s not telling)

There you have it: a REVO-tuned super Sportback with a Wraphauz party dress. If you happen to see a black, red, silver & blue Audi homing in on your rearview mirror, chances are this here might be it; don’t say we didn’t warn you.
