For the past couple of months, the writer has tried to avoid Lancer Evos the same way frustrated guys avoid a girl he knows he can't get. But this one is just to sexy.

Stare long enough at any Lancer Evolution model and it will eventually look like a box. It could just be me (of course it is), but all the acute angles, fancy bodywork and aero appendages in the world just won't make a four door sedan look like; well, not a four door sedan. Nine versions since the first unveiling of what to become one of the most potent race machine ever, Mitsubishi designers reckon that they'd do well in ignoring a minority bunch of idiots who think otherwise.

Though i must say i'm no slouch in the intellectual department, perhaps the white coats over Mitsubishi do have a case. Why change something that works? Need a new version? Just list down some things to be made bigger, another list for stuffs that can draw more power and just like that roll out a new version. I know i make it sound so simple when it is in fact far from that, but you get my idea.

Take a look at the eight variant of Evolution. The car is worlds apart compared to the previous version that ought to make you wonder if they had the same parents. Sure, they look alike but the VIII came with Super Active Yaw Control and a useful 6-speed gearbox. I've driven both and as gratifying as the two were in letting me have my way with them, the older sibling had a rawness in it that is hard for me to describe. It comes to no surprise that Evos V and VII are still quite popular with some drivers even up to now, though price could be a factor but the seemingly bulletproof turbocharged 4G63 engine lump is something to be reckoned with. The same goes for the excellent four-wheel system which has helped them get more than a few trophies for the past decade or so.

This shoot here came as a bit of a frustration for me. The only details i got prior to the shoot was simply- ‘it's an Evo'. Now, how on earth can anyone get excited with such a brief? To make things a tad more interesting, our resident pixmen had their hands full thus leaving me with the task of capturing ‘an Evo'. I was also told that the cars' tuner is SS Racing and that did somewhat proved to be pinch of good news. Partly because of all the reputable tuners in the Klang Valley right now, SS Racing is the last few that i've not been to. Partly also because at least i know that some degree of good modification have found it's way to the car.

Man, was i wrong!
