Taken to Extremor
Japanese aero specialist Varis has created its new Extremor kit for the GDB Impreza. With 320PS on board and a nutter behind the wheel, it's also extremely quick around Tsukuba.
Thirty years ago, Japanese bodywork specialist Varis started out building custom aerodynamic parts for smaller companies. Tadao Yahagi, son of founder Mikio Yahagi, head of planning and communications explains, "Building custom parts for other companies soon became less interesting as we had our own ideas that we wanted to put to work." The Varis brand soon emerged in its own right with a range focused in one particular area - aerodynamic body kits for competitive vehicles.
Competition is the key word here, for the Kanagawa-based company did not just have aesthetics in mind. Varis is committed to performance and has since gained invaluable experience by designing and producing parts for cars competing in high-endurance series like Super Taikyu. It's also currently sponsoring teams in the Time Attack, Drift and the JGTC championships. With 13 employees, the company remains modest in size yet exports to Singapore, Australia, Great Britain, Lichtenstein and UAE. Designing parts for Japanese marques is naturally its speciality, which is why kits for the Impreza, Fairlady and Lancer remain in high demand, but Varis is also starting to delve into the production of kits for European models such as the E46 BMW M3.
For Tadao Yahagi, the concept behind the aggressive Subaru Impreza GDB Type E seen in photos was always clear-to create a Time Attack car in Street category.
Varis Extremor Toyota Celica ZZT23, explained by Tadao Yahagi
"Though most Celica owners don't seem to race their cars on circuits," revealed Tadao Yahagi, "they often tune their chassis with competition parts similar to those found on racing Lancer and Imprezas. With those in place, the Celica really is fit for the Super GT track. The ZZT23 is the third generation Celica and tuning fans were looking for something new. That is why we built several variations of the Varis Extremor model."
Keeping true to their philosophy of building functional and beautiful bodykits, Varis also added a few goodies to the Extremor Celica to bolster the form of the car.
