As I approach a blind left hand corner, my navigator tells me, “Medium right, easy left”. I find third gear, swing the car sideways at 100km/h, then with a quick flick of the wheel I hit fourth, swing the car round the other way and power out, leaving a glorious trail of smoke, dust and burnt rubber in my wake.


“Hard right!” I tap the brakes, slam the gearstick into second and chuck the car sideways yet again. As the car approaches the tight right hander sideways, I apply a quarter turn of opposite lock, hit third, floor the throttle and leave four black ribbons of burnt rubber on the tarmac in a plume of smoke, narrowly missing the hard brick wall which overlooks a sheer cliff face.

“Hairpin left!”


I see the tight hairpin corner approaching fast, but I don't bother hitting the brakes at all. I'm a man on a mission. About 15 metres from the bend I mercilessly slam the gear stick into first, turn the steering wheel all the way left and the car swings nicely and settles into a neutral four wheel drift. I slot second gear, floor it then select third, and the car powers itself nicely out of the tight bend and flies across the finish line.

I've done it. I've become the Sega Rally Champion. Two machines away I hear my friend scream in agonizing defeat.

Granted, the car you see here is the older ST185 Toyota Celica GT4, but you can't deny that this car bears more than a striking resemblance than the ST205 Toyota Celica GT4 in Sega Rally Championship now, can you?
