Seeing Red

Red is the color of passion, energy and action. It is a warm and positive color associated with our most physical needs and our will to survive. It exudes a strong and powerful masculine energy.

Red is energizing. It excites the emotions and motivates us to take action. It signifies a pioneering spirit and leadership qualities, promoting ambition and determination. It is also strong-willed and can give confidence to those who are shy or lacking in will power.

Being the color of physical movement, the color red awakens our physical life force. It is the color of sexuality and can stimulate deeper and more intimate passions in us, such as love and sex on the positive side or revenge and anger on the negative.

It is often used to express love, sexuality and lust. At its most positive it can create life with its sexual energy, or use its negative expression of anger and aggression to fuel war and destruction.

Red is one of the first colors to be used by humans as art or body painting. In an archaeological site in South Africa, Pinnacle Point, ochre colored iron oxide drawings were discovered dating back to between 170,000 to 40,000 years ago.

It’s one of the first colors the human eye can see. In China, red means good luck and prosperity. Ancient Egyptians equated red with victory. In the Russian language, the word for red has the same Slavic roots as the word for beautiful. Sporty red cars certainly bring all of these associations to mind: energy, speed, prosperity, victory, beauty, and more. This Nissan R35 GTR SPL by Bulletproof Automotive in Hawthorne, CA is no exception.

It was built for a client in the Colombian real estate business whose family all keep connected with one another through their cars. The owner, his Brother, his Father and his Father’s brother have a game where they all buy the same model vehicle. Then each of them has their rides built differently to suit their tastes. This family has amassed quite a collection of supercars with this one being only one example. They all then work together on their cars and cruise the streets of Colombia side by side.

The client wanted a racecar but since there is a lack of decent facilities in Colombia, it needed to also be road ready. After all, what good would it be to have a hyper tuned GTR coated in Ferrari Rosso Corsa paint and never be able to drive it?

Bulletproof stepped up to the plate and knocked it out of the park. Assembling the perfect mix of parts and installing them in their own personal way. The body is 8 inches wider on each side than stock yet looks more refined than bulky.

Everything began as a manufactured piece yet they all were customized to a certain degree while not looking hacked up. Whether it is the Top Secret front fenders that were doubled in width and reshaped with added vents and racing details to the Varis rear bumper that was also heavily expanded. One of the biggest challenges was continuing the racing theme with the functioning side exit exhaust. Having the primary exhaust traveling out the side plus including the needed dump pipes to allow this 1,000 horsepower monster to breath was quite an exercise in engineering. The car is wide and flashy yet still flows.

At the end of the day, the customer’s goal was to have a really fun car to enjoy driving back home in Colombia while having it done on time for SEMA 2014. Mission accomplished.
