The Perodua Myvi since its launch in 2005 has become one of the top selling car in Malaysia, with record sales figures every month. In October of 2010 alone, Perodua sold a total of 7,413 units and a total of 64,109 units from January to October. But since you drive the street of Malaysia too, I’m sure you already knew that.
A proud owner and one of the very first few in Malaysia, this spanking Forca crystal red Myvi belongs to Khairul – an individual who expresses himself through creativity. Plus, he’s also the owner of a new and used parts garage that specializes in compact cars.
Fully clad in a Passo Racy TRD Sport M kit, Khairul’s Myvi looks more aggressive with a wider stance. Supporting the new features is a Boon X4 carbon fiber hood, TRD rear spoiler, a Modelista front lip and custom made rear lip.
To go along with the sporty concept, Khairul sits the car lower on TRD Sport M shocks and TRD spring. Bronze 17” Rays Engineering TE37s wrapped in 40 series tyres fill the void between wheel and the Myvi’s high arches.
An upgraded brake system – cannibalized off a Honda Odyssey and SM4 Accord – are subtle hints to what lies under the hood. Fitted with an IHI turbine taken off a Subaru, a 1.3L twin cam K3VET propels the car with 1.2 bars of boost. But before the YRV’s engine was put on active duty, it first underwent a full balancing as well as porting and polishing.
Keeping it all together is a rare P55 YRV Turbo R management system. In between hisses from the HKS SSQV blow-off valve and the screaming 38mm Tial wastegate, Khairul keeps checks on his engine performance with the help of Defi gauges and an Apexi RSM that monitors engine and vehicle speed. Speaking of which, opting for a more drivable yet performance giving option, the engine is matched to a 4-speed tiptronic Turbo R gearbox from the YRV.
Inside, the appearance is one of bewilderment. The Myvi’s simple interior now shares more similarities with its cousin, the Toyota Passo. The Passo Racy TRD Sport M dashboard and center console is just part of the makeover. Customized bits like a Daihatsu Storia meter cluster, uber rare Tiffana House accessories and TRD seats make up the rest.
Khairul’s pick of parts is an impressive one. With rare JDM accessories and big-name performance products replacing almost every inch of the Myvi, if this is not a mega makeover than I wouldn’t know what is.
