Let me get this one fact out of the way for all you stereotypical people: it’s a GTi, one of them local cars, and this particular one will rip your chest out if you are ever so unlucky to see it right on your tail, especially if you’re driving one of them “I’m a fast looking vehicle” kinda cars. Stereotypical? Hell no.
Back in the days, the silver twin-exhaust GTi already made the stock Satria’s boasting 4G93s looked like bumper cars when it was first introduced, and they were stock GTi’s, mind you. Then R3 gave us all a surprise when they introduced the mean R3 Satria, and that slapped the GTi’s owners around a bit.
Having been blessed with a blasphemous paintjob, this GTi is sure to catch some attention just cruising around town. If you have keen eyes, you might have already spotted the well weaved materials decorating the exterior, but we’ll get to that in a bit. We’re more interested in what blessings are on the mechanical side.
The normal weapon of choice for all the performance seekers out there would naturally be the 4G93T GSR 1.8-liter turbocharged engine. It does have the power to perform, and its capability is quite amazing. This particular owner chose the natural way, which undeniably is the tougher route but also the most rewarding. The fact that the owner actually reached this stage without boosting, most would definitely recommend suicide, but the owner knew what he was doing.
He chose to stay with the naturally aspirated 4G93, with added upgrades, of course. Coming from the ground up, Duratech beauties filled the interior of the 4G93, with its conrods holding up the forged CP pistons needed for higher compression. Duratech valve springs and race valves, together with Duratech R camshafts provide the succulent knocking power, with burning substance fed by Works Engineering fuel rail and gracious Skunk2 intake and Works Engineering throttle body, together ignited by Race-Tech coil-on-plug. Air-fuel ratio is gauged by a digital PLX gauge on top of the dashboard inside the cockpit.
Assisting the cams would be HKS adjustable cam pulleys and Power Enterprise timing belt for the durability. Keeping the pressure in check would be the AEM fuel pressure regulator, and AEM fuel filter for the smooth flowing.
Taking out the garbage would be the curvy Tonnka extractor going straight to the rear. Cusco oil catch tank keeps the engine oil sufficient for whacking, and the owner even had a Golden Eagle dipstick installed to replace the stock boring one.
Keeping the engine cool while revving past 7,000rpm would be the huge triple-core D&D aluminum radiator filled with SARD Hyper Coolant and kept inside with a nicely chosen pressure PIAA cap. Race-Tech radiator air diversion plate is installed too, wouldn’t want all those air to be wasted now do we? Another thing to notice is this GTi’s engine bay is probably the cleanest we’ve seen, and believe us, we’ve seen a lot.
White paint applied on the head and intake makes a nice color-coded integration with the Ultra Racing bar and red paintjob. This set-up is set to dominate from paintjob to engine mods, and there’s more.
Now with all those mechanical perfection installed, extensive tuning will be needed and the owner could no longer rely on stock ECU or simple piggyback to do its work. A Microtech LT10S standalone ECU was installed and tuned to perfection, complete with Microtech dash datalogger to help with diagnostics. Defi VSD link is used to compensate for the speedometer space used for the dash datalogger. It makes the cockpit looks nice too.
All those power is delivered through the Raceborn super single clutch coupled with a Cusco LSD, straight towards its 4.68 final drive all the way down to the asphalt through the nicely chosen Volk Racing CE28N 15x7jj rims wrapped by competition-only Federal FZ201 195/50/15 tyres. The chosen rubber is needed to allow sufficient grip for the menace this car is delivering, and it can deliver a lot. The Federal tyres will be taking some time to heat up, but once the temperature is met it’ll grip like close to the sun’s gravitational pull.
We often forget about the little things, and it is quite popular for so called motorsport enthusiasts to wanting 300 plus horses running around in the engine bay and completely disregard upgrading their brakes. Thankfully, braking power for this vehicle has been enhanced considerably with 4-pot Option Motor calipers and Option Motor brake lines. If you have driven a Satria before, than you would know how serious the owner is to be having 4-pot calipers clamping the rotors. You just have to have the balls to tap on the pedal late enough and trust that the calipers are enough to do their job.
Moving on to the handling department, another popular choice of coilovers would be the brain-hemorrhaging-assistant Tien Monoflex coilovers holding the car up. Coupled with the FZ201, this GTi has serious cornering stability. Keeping the chassis together well and rigid are the Race-Tech chassis alignment kit, complete with Race-Tech bushing kit for all the important joints. Ultra Racing front strut bar and room bar are installed for extra rigidity, with the sexy GME rear strut crossbar completing the package.
Reaching into the cockpit, satisfaction adorns the overall look and feel with an all-original Sparco steering wheel greeting the driver, complete with a quick release kit too. Keeping your ass in place would be the superliciously-delicious Recaro Tomcat full buckets, oh the beauty, with Simpson racing harnesses installed to make sure you stay in the car at all times. We like the simple engine start-stop button replacing the keyhole. Does it come in red?
The overall view is decorated with weaving perfection. R3 original carbon fiber rear spoiler helps with the downforce for this hatch, with Ganador-style carbon fiber perfection side mirrors giving it both style and a menacing glare. An all original stage-3 R3 front lip spoiler completes the blasphemously delicious look that’ll surely destroy any hopes you might have trying to run away from this mean SatriaGTi, tuned in house at Millennium Motorsport Asia.
This GTi would be a killer on track with the setup it’s boasting. Now there are no words on the horse count for this machine, but the setup can easily achieve more than 200 healthy stallions bred for insane perfection.The number might be a little underwhelming compared to all you boost-junkie, but 200 horses on an N/A engine, with no lag, you can keep pressing that pedal all the way to any double century sprint and worry about whether or not you have enough fuel to last you the whole way instead of the turbine’s temperature. And the sound this car makes when it rev up to 6,000rpm? Maniacal. Enough said. Your argument is not valid.
